Our Rules

The rules of the game (as we play it):

Playing the game:

Play begins at or around 7pm. There are three tables (head, middle, pits) with four chairs each, and three dice. Each player receives an individual score card and pencil, and one person from each table keeps score for each individual round. There are 30 total rounds.

The head table starts each round with the ringing of the bell. Players roll for a specific number (1-6) as specified on the scorecard. Scoring goes as follows:

  • One die with the specific number – one point
  • Two die with the specific number – two points
  • Three die with the specific number – BUNCO!!! Twenty-one points
  • Three die of the same number (other then the specific number) – five points

During each round players are a part of a team with the person across from them. At the head table, teams work together to score twenty-one points. Once a team at the head table reaches twenty-one points, the bell is rung, and play immediately stops at all the tables. The winning team (team with the most points) at the middle and pit tables move up to the next table (pit to middle and middle to head). At the Head table the losing team moves down to the pits! You cannot be with the same partner during the next round so you must sit across from someone who was at your new table in the previous round.

If you win a round you circle the number of that round on your scorecard and you cross the number out if you lose. Also every time you score a bunco mark it down at the bottom of your scorecard. Once all rounds are complete, prizes are given as follows:

  • Most wins – $25.00
  • Second-Most Wins – $16.00
  • Most Buncos – $12.00
  • *Traveler – $5.00
  • Boobie – $2.00

* Traveler: If you roll three 2’s at any point throughout the night yell “traveler!!!” And fluffy dice will be thrown at you. Hold on to the dice until you hear someone else yell “traveler!!!” and then you get to throw the fluffy dice at them. Whoever holds the fluffy dice at the end of play wins $5.00.

At the end of every game, we enjoy a desert together while prizes are given out and the host of next months bunco night collects $5.00 from each regular player as well as the bunco box.

Substitutes:

If you are a regular player and are unable to make it to a night of bunco fun you are responsible to find a substitute from the provided sub list. Regular players are responsible for paying the $5.00 fee for the night that there sub is playing and is responsible for getting their $5.00 fee for the following month to the next host.

Substitutes and special holidays:
If a regular player is unable to attend the Christmas Meal and Gift exchange, The Valentine Exchange, or the Summer Picnic, the regular player is responsible for providing the extra money, and or food for the meal, which the substitute will partake of. The regular player is also responsible to provide the gifts that are exchanged. The Substitute may keep whatever gifts they receive at their discretion.

Special Holidays:

December is our Christmas Party; we usually share a meal together, and exchange a small gift ($5 or less). The host organizes the meal for December, and the price of the food is split 12 ways weather prepared or ordered. (Christmas dinner starts at 6pm).

February we celebrate Valentine’s Day; each player brings a valentine for every bunco lady valued at $1 or less.

In July we have a summer “pool” party and picnic (though I don’t remember the last time anyone went swimming). Regular players bring a side or dessert. (Picnic starts at 6pm).
